Black Breasted Leaf Turtles Geoemyda spengleri
G. spengleri is a rare species in captivity and becoming rare in the wild. Most of our leaf turtle customers are hobbyists who want to breed them. There is something so satisfying about seeing one more spengleri come into the world! This is a forest species that lives in the mountains of Viet Nam and China. They do not like too much warmth. Room temperature is usually just right for them. They are primarily terrestrial but need a shallow pool to soak in. They are just a few inches long as adults. All these things make them a good species for a large indoor terrarium. Not to mention their huge personality! Earthworms are a good staple, but they will take a wide variety of live food and some fruits and vegetables. Hatchlings are delicate and need a set-up that stays moist and moderate in temperature. We will provide all the information you may need on their care. We enjoy talking with our customers about their animals. Shown below is one of our breeder males, "Trogdor" and our first 2012 hatchling.
